Somnath Live Darshan is the reality of modern technology to have darshan to get the blessings of Lord Somnath from being in any part of the world.
Lord Shiva is also known as Lord Somnath, which implies the Lord of Soma or the Moon.
Lord Shiva also holds the Soma or the Moon at his head, and the devotees called Him Someshwar.
The Somnath Jyotirlinga is considered one of the most sacred jyotirlingas in India.
Jyotirlinga itself means ‘pillar or column of light,’ and ‘stambha’ means there is no starting point or endpoint.
Somnath God
Somnath God refers to ‘moon’ or ‘Lord of the Soma’. The site on which the famous Somnath Temple is located is also known as ‘Prabhasa’.
Being one of the holiest places for the Hindus, the temple is visited by millions of devotees every year.
According to the legend, the moon god, Soma, is believed to have lost his shining power because of a curse, and he took a bath in the Sarasvati River that flowed in this region to regain his power.
Somnath God Temple is believed to have been constructed in the Satya Yuga by the Moon God using gold.
In Treta Yuga, the temple is believed to have been constructed using silver by Ravana. Lord Krishna is believed to have constructed this temple using Sandalwood in Dwapara Yuga.
Somnath is where the first of twelve jyotirlingas were formed. The manifestation of Lord Shiva also took place in Somnath for the first time.
When all the gods requested Prajapati Daksha to retract the curse given to the moon god, he suggested they pray to Lord Shiva.
This is why the Lord here is also referred to as Someshwar or Somnath, which means Lord of the Moon.
Somnath Mandir
The Somnath Mandir is located at Veraval in Gujarat. The temple is one of the holiest places on the earth for Hindus.
This place also has one of the earliest jyotirlingas in the country.
The modern Somnath Mandir as we see it today is believed to have been built between the 1st century and 9th century CE.
However, the exact date is not known to many. Since then, the temple has been reconstructed several times owing to invasions from several Muslim rulers and invaders.
The present Somnath Mandir follows the Maru-Gurjara architecture.
The temple’s architecture is the perfect showcase of the capabilities of Sompura Salats, the gifted masons of Gujarat.
The Mandir, as we see it today, is intricately carved and has 212 relief panels spread across two levels of mandapas.
The main spire or the temple’s sikhara is located 49 feet above the sanctum.
An open plan was associated with the older Somnath Mandir.
This plan incorporated great windows that facilitated the entry of light into the circumambulation passage and the mandapa.
Also, the detailed and intricate artworks of this temple were found to be similar to the ones at Mount Abu’s Tejapala Temple.
The rebuilt Mandir too is full of artwork. The best part of the architecture of the new Mandir is that it retains the older panels whilst getting newer ones.
The distinguishing factor between the two panels is their colors.
