More than a decade after their epic WrestleMania matchups, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena crossed paths again on WWE SmackDown Friday night. The confrontation occurred after surprise appearances from The Rock and Pat McAfee to kick off the show.
McAfee, a former WWE commentator and part-time grappler, started the program unannounced. He was interrupted by young United States champion Austin Theory, sparking a war of words. Theory found himself outgunned when McAfee brought out the show’s second shocker, The Rock.
The Rock shredded Theory on the mic, riling up the crowd to chant “You’re an asshole” at the arrogant champion. Fuming, Theory finally snapped and attacked, only to be swiftly put in his place by the veterans. It was a stunning blast from the past for longtime WWE fans.
