Tensions erupted between Canada and India after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggested Indian intelligence may be linked to the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh separatist leader killed in British Columbia.
India swiftly rejected the accusation as “absurd.” When Trudeau implied India’s involvement in the death of a Canadian Sikh, Indians responded angrily.
The row represents the worst diplomatic crisis ever between the two countries. Indian media, analysts and leaders have been vocal on social media, with headlines proclaiming India “thrashed” Canada over the “savage reply” to Trudeau’s claims.
Even India’s opposition Congress party, usually at odds with the government, offered support against compromising on terrorism.
